The global pandemic has been challenging for every business, and libraries are no different. Most library buildings closed throughout the year, sending staff home and forcing in-person programming to become virtual. Zoom, Facebook, and Google Hangouts became go-to places for story time, music appreciation, and other events. Libraries also had to turn solely to digital engagement (whether social media or email marketing) to promote library card sign up, help look for books and other resources, and give advice on databases available on library computers – but now, accessible at home for patrons. Many libraries are without dedicated marketing staff, and they have had to boost their expertise in the digital space in spite of staffing constraints. During this session we will look at digital trends during the pandemic, what has been successful for libraries, what tools libraries can use and what tips can help as they continue to engage patrons virtually, even as the pandemic closures wane.
