Irwin County Elementary School
Media Specialist
Christie Copeland is the school library media specialist at Irwin County Elementary School in Ocilla, Georgia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English, a master's degree in library and information science, and an educational specialist degree in instructional technology, all from Valdosta State University. She began her library adventure almost two decades ago as an aide at the South Georgia Regional Library system in Valdosta, Georgia. She has worked as a circulation clerk, a cataloger, a reference aide, a youth services librarian, a branch coordinator, a tech lab teacher, and for the past decade as a media specialist. Copeland is passionate about connecting her students and teachers with literature and information in all formats. She is a lifelong geek and a firm believer that your uniqueness is your superpower, and challenges bring opportunities. With that in mind, during remote instruction, Copeland pivoted to delivering personalized screencasts, YouTube videos, virtual guest readers, ebooks, and other resources so that students and teachers could continue learning and teaching from home. She and her husband, Ryan (also an educator), live in Tifton with a curmudgeonly dachshund named Oscar. She can be found on Instagram and Twitter @smilenotshush.
